LSSU Alum Jason Kerr '18 Competes Professionally in the Vietnam Professional Golf Tour

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Jason Kerr, a Lake Superior State golf alum, competed professionally in the Vietnam Professional Golf Tour West Lakes Matchplay Championship Vietnam at the West Lakes Golf & Villa on December 17-21, 2019. 

Through the first round of play, Kerr posted a score of 78 which tied him for seventh overall among participants as he was +6 from the leader. In the Round of the Top 16, Kerr, who was the 10th seed, moved on after defeating Truong Quoc Phong in the round. The following day, Kerr would defeat the number 15 seed, Tran Trong Thien, to advance to the semifinal round as one of the final four golfers. In the semifinals, Kerr was defeated by the number six seeded Varuth Nguyen to prevent the LSSU graduate from competing in the championship round. Instead, Kerr would face off against number four seeded Nguyen Dinh Chau and would record the upset to finish in third place in the tournament. Results from the event can be found here.

Kerr, a 2018 graduate of LSSU, played two seasons as a member of the Lakers golf team. In his time at Lake Superior State, Kerr compiled a 76.5 stroke average, posted three top-20 showings and recorded a team-leading 154 to tie for 37th place at the NCAA-DII Midwest Region Tournament. The Pattaya, Thailand native was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team.

The 2019-20 Laker golf season will resume on March 13, 2020 as the team will compete in the three-day SVSU Invitational in Lexington, Ky. to begin the spring portion of the season.
