Both teams split both of their meetings in the regular season with the home team winning each contest. The Bulldogs were the victors in a battle on Jan. 6 in which they erased an 11-point halftime deficit, but the Lakers got their revenge in the Soo with an 87-74 win on Feb. 10.

The Lakers reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history after coming back from down 13 points with seven minutes to play against Walsh with a 15-1 run before following that up with an 88-80 performance in a high-scoring affair with Upper Iowa in which LSSU never trailed in the second half.

Ferris State opened up their NCAA Tournament run with an impressive 81-65 showing over Northern Michigan, finally defeating the Wildcats in their third attempt to do so. The following night, Ferris State fought their way back against the host school and top-seeded UIndy Greyhounds to earn a 97-84 victory in overtime.

All five Laker starters are averaging double figures in the tournament so far, led by the Ypsilanti trio of Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.), Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.), and Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) who are all averaging at least 17 points per game in the tournament.
