Lakers Face First Setback of the Season at D1 EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (4-1) faced their first setback of the season on the road against the Eastern Michigan (EMU) Eagles (5-3) by a final score of 68-53 on Friday.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but the Lakers got back within two with a pair of baskets from Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.). Eastern Michigan would continue to apply pressure, but Blake Cassidy (Pellston, Mich.) responded hitting three-straight shots from beyond the arc to put the Lakers in front by one. EMU pushed ahead again, but LSSU once again answered with a dunk from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) followed by a three ball from Xander Okerlund (Empire, Mich.) to tie up the game at 29-29 going into the halftime break.

A pair of baskets from Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) helped the Lakers keep pace early in the second half, but the Eagles would ultimately pull ahead and close out the game.

Okerlund led the way offensively with 11 points with Womack also finishing in double-digits with ten. Meanwhile, Perkins led all players in rebounding with nine.

The Lakers return to action on Thursday, Dec. 7 when they open GLIAC play at Wisconsin-Parkside with tipoff scheduled for 9 p.m.
