Men's Basketball Defeats Ontario's Algoma University

Ke'Montrece Williams scored 23 points to lead the Lakers.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team posted a 95-72 win against the Algoma University (Ontario) Thunderbirds on Tuesday, Nov. 26 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. With the win, the Lakers record improves to 3-3 overall which puts the team back at a .500 winning percentage.

The Lakers came out strong against the Thunderbirds, scoring the first 13 points in the game. After Lake State took a 19 point lead, Algoma would begin a rally where they would tighten the lead to 11 points. This trend would continue throughout the first half as the Lakers would build onto their lead, which was at 21 points at one point before the Thunderbirds would once again close the lead to 11 points. The first half would close with a solid stretch from the Lakers as the team took a 26 point lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the lead that the Lakers built in the first half would prove to be too much for the Thunderbirds to come back from. Algoma outscored the Lakers by a total of 33-30 but the lead the Lakers built was enough to secure the win.

Senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins led the team with 23 points in the game as he went 3-for-7 on three point shots and a perfect 6-for-6 on free throws. Collins also led the team with 12 rebounds, giving him a double-double in the game. The Laker freshmen had a strong showing as Nigel Colvin had 15 points against the Thunderbirds and Xander Okerlund had 12 points. Sophomore Justin Fischer recorded six rebounds in the game as well as six assists, which led the Lakers.

The Lakers shot 32-of-64 (50.0 percent), including 16-of-31 (51.6 percent) on three-point shots while Algoma shot 26-of-65 (40.0 percent), including 11-of-25 (44.0 percent) on three point shots.
