Men's Basketball Defeats Tournament Host 75-71 at Westminster Classic

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team recorded a 75-71 win over Westminster College at the Westminster Classic on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Salt Lake City, Utah. With the win, the Lakers record improves to 2-3-0 overall. 

In the first half, the Lakers and Griffins would play a tight game with the team's staying within a point or two for the majority of the first ten minutes of the half. The Lakers would then build onto their lead (32-22), led by a pair of three-point jump shots from Brandon Allen. The half ended with the Lakers ahead by 15 points against the Griffins (46-31). 

The Griffins would open the second half with a three-pointer to close in on the Lakers lead (46-34) and Westminster would continue to put pressure on the Lakers throughout the half. With five minutes left in the game, Westminster would come within two points of the Lakers (60-58). The Lakers would hold onto their lead as the next stretch of play saw freshman Nigel Colvin make two free throws and C.J. Robinson with a layup to put the Lakers back ahead by six points with 4:30 left in the game. Westminster would once again rally bringing the score to 66-65 with 2:42 left to play. Colvin and Ke'Montrece Collins would each add another three-point basket to put the Lakers back ahead and eventually seal the win. The game ended in a final score of 75-71.

Colvin led the team with 19 points in the game as he made four three point shots and also added four rebounds in the game off the bench for the Lakers. Brandon Allen, also off the bench, would go a perfect five-for-five on field goal attempts and three-for-three in three point attempts to total 13 points for the Lakers. C.J. Robinson also had a strong game for the Lakers with 15 points in the game and Justin Fischer would lead the team in rebounds with 10 in the game.
