Lakers Drop First Game of Westminster Classic

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team was defeated by Dixie State in the Westmister Classic by a final score of 95-73 on Friday, Nov. 22 in Salt Lake City, Utah. 

The Lakers fell behind in the first half by a 50-33 against the Dixie State Trailblazers. Lake State would play tighter in the second half against Dixie State but were still outscored by 45-40. The game ended in a final score of 95-73. 

Senior Ke'Montrece Collins led the Lakers with 20 points in the game, as he went 8-for-11 on field goals and netted two three pointers. Collins ranked second on the team with five rebounds in the game. 

Tristen Mysen scored 14 points off the bench for the Lakers in the game to rank second among the team, including a perfect 4-for-4 on free throws. Freshman Xander Okerlund posted 11 points in the game, including a team-leading three three-pointers. Okerlund also led the team in rebounds with six against the Trailblazers. 

Lake Superior State shot 41.7 percent from the field, including 29.2 percent on three-point shots. Dixie State's offensive game was running at a 50.0 field goal percentage, including 40.9 percent on three-pointers.

The Lakers will return to the court for their second game in the Westminster Classic tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. MST against the tournament host, Westminster.
