Men's Basketball Ranked Fourth in GLIAC North Division Preseason Coaches Poll

MBB Coaches Poll

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team was ranked fourth in the 2019-20 GLIAC North Division Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll as announced by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The Lakers received 33 points in to put them behind first place Ferris State (56), Parkside (51), Michigan Tech (45) and ahead of Purdue Northwest (17) and Northern Michigan (15).

Senior Ke'Montrece Collins was named to the 2019-20 GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team for the North Division. Collins is one of five players named to the team and the sole Laker representative.

The Lakers are led by Head Coach Steve Hettinga, who enters his 13th season in the role, and assistant coaches Ted Stowe and Tim Cairnduff.

Last season, the Lakers went 15-12 overall and 11-9 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, finishing sixth in the GLIAC and fourth in the North Division. The Lakers will open the season with a month of exhibition and non-conference games including a home exhibition game against Rochester on Nov. 2, a pair of non-conference games in Nashville, Tenn. at the Trevecca Classic, and the Westminster Classic in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Lakers will begin conference play on Dec. 5 with a home game against Ashland in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Lakers roster will be led by senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins and redshirt senior guard Cody Ley while last year's team MVP, senior guard Malek Adams, is out for the season due to a knee injury. The absence of Adams in the lineup will open an opportunity for one of the team's younger players to fill his role.

The junior class is comprised of redshirt center Jackson Schrameyer, guard Brandon Allen and guard Sam Cornett. Schrameyer, the team's starting center, set career highs in games played (26), games started (20) and minutes per game (13.2) last season. The sophomore class is highlighted by C.J. Robinson, the only player from last year's team to start all 27 games. Robinson, who was named the team's Best Newcomer last season, is joined by classmates Justin Fischer, Jayden Perry, and Ashton Sherrell.

The Lakers will add three freshmen to this year's roster as well as redshirt freshman, Tristen Mysen. Guard Nigel Colvin (Detroit, Mich.), forward/center Dan Few (Detroit, Mich.), and guard Xander Okerlund (Traverse City, Mich.) make up this year's incoming Laker class.

The Lakers will open the 2019-20 season with an exhibition game at home on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Rochester. The game is set for 3:00 p.m. and will be played in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
