SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Lake Superior State men's basketball team has announced the recipients of it team awards for 2018-19.

Junior guard Malek Adams was named the Lakers' Most Valuable Player. Adams, a native of Grand Ledge, Michigan who is majoring in sport and recreation management, earned All-GLIAC First Team honors for the first time in his career after averaging a team-best 16.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He also shot 49.0% from the field, including 40.9% on three-pointers, and 80.2% from the free throw line. Adams scored in double figures in 19 of his 25 games played on the season, including 10 games with at least 20 points. He scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first career double-double in a game at Ferris State on Jan. 26 in Big Rapids, Michigan. He also tallied 21 points in the Lakers' 77-66 win over then-No. 15 Ashland on Feb. 9 at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. He was named a GLIAC North Division Player of the Week once in 2018-19.

Senior guard Tim Cairnduff earned the Bud Cooper Coaches Award. Cairnduff, a native of Morley, Michigan who graduated with a degree in criminal justice – law enforcement, averaged a career-best 10.8 points on 48.3% shooting from the field, including 39.2% on three-point shots. He also recorded career bests in assists per game (3.3), rebounds per game (3.5), steals per game (1.0) and minutes per game (31.2). Cairnduff scored in doubles figures in 16 games on the season.

Freshman guard C.J. Robinson was named the Best Newcomer. A native of Clarkston, Michigan, started 27 games and tallied 5.9 points per game. He averaged 31.7 minutes per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range. He also tallied 2.0 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. 

The Most Improved Player was redshirt sophomore center Jackson Schrameyer. After playing in 24 games (no starts) with 5.8 minutes per game, 2.4 points per game, while grabbing 0.8 rebounds per game as a redshirt freshman in 2017-18, Schrameyer improved each of those marks in 2018-19. He set career-highs in games played (26), games started (20), minutes per game (13.2) and rebounds per game (2.4). 

Freshman Ashton Sherrell, a forward from Detroit, Michigan who is majoring in Kinesiology,was the recipient of the Tom Thornton Award — presented to the student-athlete who persevered, never gave up and was a great teammate. Sherrell played in 12 games and averaged 3.1 points per game in 2018-19.
