Men's Basketball Defeats Ferris State 86-66 to Close Out Regular Season

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State men's basketball concluded its regular season with an 86-66 win over Ferris State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

With the win, Lake Superior State (15-11, 11-9 GLIAC) earned the sixth seed in the 2019 GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament and will face third-seeded Parkside at 8:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The Lakers were dominant on the court — oustcoring Ferris State (20-11, 12-8 GLIAC) 50-30 in the first half. In the second half Lake Superior State maintained its lead as it emptied its bench as the Lakers cruised to the 86-66 victory.

Junior forward Blake Marquardt scored a game-high 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a 6-of-9 performance from behind the three-point line. He also converted all six of his free throw attempts. With his six made three-pointers, Marquardt moved into a tie with Jordan Dasuqi (2013-17) for the eighth-most three-pointers made in program history with 205.

Marquardt was joined in double figures in scoring by: sophomore forward Rog Stein (19 points), senior guard Tim Cairnduff (11) and junior forward Malek Adams (11).

As a team, the Lakers shot 51.7 percent overall, 53.3 percent on three-pointers and 84.2 percent from the free throw line.

Defensivley, the Lakers limited the bulldogs to 36.4 percent shooting.

Lake Superior State tallied 23 assists in the game compared to 11 turnovers.
