Adams Named GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week

Malek Adams: GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Malek Adams has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, as announced by GLIAC officials on Monday afternoon. 

Adams, a junior guard from Grand Ledge, Michigan who is majoring in sport and recreation management, averaged 19.5 points on 54.8 percent shooting with 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as Lake Superior State (13-8, 9-6 GLIAC) went 2-0 on the week. 

Adams began the week with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while tallying four rebounds and two assists, in the Lakers' 90-66 win over Wayne State on Thursday evening at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. He then finished the week with 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while garnering seven rebounds and three assists, in the Lakers' 77-66 home win over then-No. 15 Ashland.   

Adams, who is the GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week for the first time this season, has eclipsed the 20-point plateau in 10 games in 2018-19 and has scored in double figures 15 times. Adams ranks fourth in the GLIAC in overall scoring average (17.9 points per game) and fifth in three-point field-goal percentage (45.6).

The Lakers are back in action this week at home. On Thursday, they take on Michigan Tech at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Northern Michigan at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Bud Cooper Gymnasium. On Saturday, the Lakers will honor their graduating seniors as part of Senior Day.
