UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Lake Superior State men's basketball picked up a win against Saginaw Valley State University on the road by an 87-72 final on Saturday afternoon.

Lake Superior State (11-8, 7-6 GLIAC) outscored Saginaw Valley State (7-14, 3-10 GLIAC) in the first quarter. The Cardinals scored the game's first seven points, but the Lakers bounced back right after to even things up midway through the frame. From there, Lake State maintained the lead through the duration of the game. In the second half, the Lakers outscored the Cardinals 46-39, bringing Lake Superior State to an 87-72 win.

Senior forward Blake Marquardt led the Lakers in scoring with 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Sophomore forward Rog Stein had the team-high in rebounds with nine. Senior guard Carson Manger had 15 points, making 5-of-6 shots, and notched 8 rebounds.

The Lakers shot 47.5 percent from the field and made 44.0 percent of three-point shot attempts. The Cardinals shot 37.9 percent overall, including a 34.8 percent success rate from behind the three-point arc.

Lake State made 18-of-27 free throws, while Saginaw Valley made 14-of-20.

The Lakers' next home action is on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. when they host Wayne State in a conference matchup in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
