SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Rog Stein has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Monday.

Stein, a sophomore forward from Kalamazoo, Michigan, earned athlete of the week honors after helping the Lake Superior State men's basketball team to a 1-1 record on the week. A criminal justice major, Stein averaged 17 points on 50 percent shooting with 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game on the week. He garnered his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in Lake State's 85-72 come-from-behind win over Grand Valley State on Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium, He also made 8-of-10 free throw attempts in the win over GVSU.  

The Lakers, who are now 7-5 (3-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) continue GLIAC play this week with road games against Northern Michigan at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Michigan Tech at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

This is the first time that Stein has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week.
