Men’s Basketball Defeats Algoma 100-69 in Nonconference Play

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State men's basketball defeated Algoma University 100-69 in a nonconference game on Tuesday evening at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State (5-4) had a dominant first half as the Lakers outscored Algoma (2-9) 58-26. The Lakers grew their lead throughout the first 20 minutes with their largest lead (32 points) coming in the final minute of the half. In the second half, the Lakers maintained their lead, which never dropped below 22 points, as they went on to win 100-69.

Fourteen different Lake Superior State players scored in the game, including three Lakers who scored in double figures. Senior guard Tim Cairnduff and senior forward Blake Marquardt scored 13 points each, while redshirt sophomore center Jackson Schrameyer added 12 points.  

The Lakers shot 50 percent from the field, including 45.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Marquardt led the Lakers in three-point shooting with a 4-of-7 performance.  

Lake State had 26 assists compared to 13 turnovers. Sophomore forward Rog Stein recorded a game-high seven assists. Stein also led the Lakers with six rebounds, including three offensive rebounds.

Defensively, the Lakers tallied 10 steals – led by freshman guard Justin Fischer and sophomore guard Sam Cornett Jr., who tallied three each.

Freshman guard Jayden Perry scored his first collegiate points on a three-pointer.

The Lakers return to action for their final game of 2018 when they face Cedarville at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
