DETROIT – Malek Adams scored a season-high 24 points as Lake Superior State men's basketball defeated Wayne State 89-65 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday at the Matthaei Center.

In the first half, Adams scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range as Lake Superior State (3-3, 1-1 GLIAC) took a 36-29 lead over Wayne State (1-5, 1-1 GLIAC) at the half. The Lakers trailed until 12:01 remaining in the first half when Adams made a three-point shot to give the Lakers a 12-10 lead. The Lakers grew their lead to as many as 13 points (34-21) with 2:23 remaining in the half after a layup by sophomore forward Rog Stein. The Warriors cut into the Lakers' lead with an 8-2 run to end the half and make the score 36-29.

In the second half, the Lakers pulled away for the victory as they outscored the Warriors 53-36, and the Laker lead never dropped below seven points as they cruised to the 89-65 win. 

Adams added another 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting to lead all scorers with 24 points in the game. He shot 8-of-13 overall, including 4-of-6 on three-point shots and he made all four of his free throw attempts.

Stein added nine points, while tying his season high with 13 rebounds, and redshirt sophomore center Jackson Schrameyer scored 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and went 3-of-3 from the free throw line.  

Karim Murray and Xavier Cochran paced the Warriors with 14 and 13 points, respectively.  

Lake Superior State shot 50.8 percent from the field and 48.1 percent from three-point range. The Lakers made 13 three-point shots. 

The Lakers held the Warriors to 31.7 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from three-point range. 

Lake Superior State went 14-of-16 from the free throw line, while Wayne State went 21-of-28. 

The Lakers return to the court for their first home game of the season against Saginaw Valley State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
