Lakers Look to Stay Undefeated as they Face Greyhounds and Screaming Eagles

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State men's basketball looks to stay undefeated with nonconference games against University of Indianapolis and Southern Indiana this week. 

Lake Superior State plays a road game at University of Indianapolis at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Nicoson Hall. The Lakers then face Southern Indiana in a neutral-site game played at UIndy at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Last Time on the Court

Lake Superior State (2-0) started the season by winning two games at the Seawolf Jamboree, hosted by Alaska Anchorage last weekend. The Lakers defeated the Alaska Nanooks 85-63 on Friday in a neutral-site game at Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Lake State finished up the weekend with a 67-58 win at Alaska Anchorage. For their play over the weekend, sophomore forward Rog Stein (Tournament MVP) and senior guard Tim Cairnduff were named to the Seawolf Jamboree All-Tournament Team. 

GLIAC North Division Player of the Week

Stein was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week after helping the Lakers go 2-0 over the weekend. The Seawolf Jamboree Most Valuable Player averaged 14.5 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting, while dishing out 3.0 assists per game, grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game and recording one double-double. 

By the Numbers

Lake Superior State is averaging 76 points per game, while holding the opposition to 60.5 points per game. LSSU is shooting 48 percent from the field, including 39.5 percent from three-point range, while limiting opponents to 34.5 percent shooting and 25 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Lakers are averaging 8.5 made three-pointers and 4.5 steals per game. Stein and Cairnduff are pacing the Lakers with 14.5 and 12.0 points per game, respectively.

Scouting University of Indianapolis

The Greyhounds (4-0) enter Wednesday's game on a four-game winning streak, including an 88-80 win at Grand Valley State on Sunday. UIndy overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to pick up the road win.

UIndy is scoring 83.8 points per game while allowing 70.3 points per game. The Greyhounds are shooting 44.9 percent on the season, including 38.8 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 42.1 percent and 33 percent from behind the arc.

The Greyhounds are led in scoring by Jimmy King (17.5 points per game) and Trevor Lakes (14.5). 

Scouting Southern Indiana

The Screaming Eagles are 2-1 this season, including a 90-72 home win over Martin Methodist on Saturday. 

Southern Indiana is scoring 74.7 points per game while giving up 70.0 points per game. The Screaming Eagles are shooting 40.9 percent on the season and 39.3 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 43.9 percent, including 34.6 percent from behind the arc.

Three Screaming Eagles are averaging double figures in points: Kobe Caldwell (16 points per game), Alex Stein (15) and Nate Hansen (13.7). 

First Home Game

The Lakers will play their first regular-season home game against Saginaw Valley State University on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
