Laker Men Advance to GLIAC Title Game with Semifinal Win Over Michigan Tech

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Lake Superior State men's basketball team secured a spot in Sunday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship game with a, 70-56, victory over Michigan Tech Saturday evening in the semifinal round.

Sunday's title game (3 p.m.) will pit the No.2-seeded Lakers against No.1-seeded and Tournament host Ferris State. FSU topped No.4 Ashland, 85-66, in their semifinal matchup.

After slow start, Lake State found themselves down 35-34 at the half with just a 37.9 percentage from the field.

In the final 20 minutes of play, Lake Superior outscored Tech, 36-21, shooting 42.4 (14-of-33) percent from the field 50.0 (5-of-10) from behind the arc to pull away with the win. The Lakers held a 41-34 advantage on the glass in the win while forcing 10 turnovers and committing just six.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams led the Lakers offense with 18 points on a 6-of-17 performance from the field and finished one assist shy of a double-double with tallying nine for the game.

Tim Cairnduff finished with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting including a 3-of-6 performance from three-point distance. Michael Nicholson led the team in rebounding with nine.

Kyle Monroe led the Huskies offensively with 15 points in the loss. Bryan Heath finished with 14.
