LSSU Men Advance to GLIAC Semifinals With Win Over Grand Valley

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Survive and advance.

That is the motto for postseason basketball and its exactly what the Lake Superior State men's basketball team accomplished Wednesday evening as it topped Grand Valley, 73-65, in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Quarterfinals inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

With the win, LSSU advances to a GLIAC Semifinal tilt with No.6-seed Michigan Tech on Saturday at 5 p.m. Semifinals and Finals will take place at No.1-seed at Ferris State's Wink Arena.

The No.1-seeded Bulldogs are slated for a matchup with No.4-seeded Ashland in the first semifinal at 3 p.m. Sunday's GLIAC Title game is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams led the Lakers offense with 24 points on a 10-of-17 performance from the field.

Tim Cairnduff and Malek Adams provided a spark off the bench tallying 13 points respectively. Cairnduff knocked down three triples while pulling down seven on the night and Adams was 4-of-6 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

Myles Miller led Grand Valley offensively with 13 points. Justin Greason finished with 10.

Lake State finished the game shooting 42.1 percent (24-of-57) percent from the field and 26.3 (5-of-19) percent from behind the arc. Grand Valley finished at 47.1 and 23.1 percent. 

GVSU held a, 35-31, advantaged in the rebound column. Forced turnovers were in favor of LSSU, 8-2.
