Lake State Men Top Grand Valley at Home

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Lake Superior State men's basketball team took down Grand Valley, 85-73, Thursday evening in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

With the win, the LSSU improves to 21-6 overall on the year with a 14-4 clip in league competition. GVSU slips to 14-13, 9-9.

Lake State finished the game shooting 47.1 (32-of-68) percent from the field and 32.4 (11-of-34) percent from behind the arc. Grand Valley shot 55.6 percent and 21.4 percent.

LSSU was edged in the rebounding column, 36-34 but forced 12 GVSU turnovers while committing just eight.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams paced Lake State offensively with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Williams also finished with a team-high six assists and seven rebounds in the win.

Malek Adams finished with 20 points (8-of-14) off the bench. Carson Manger tallied 14 and was 3-of-6 on triple attempts.

Finding himself in foul trouble most of the evening, senior forward Michael Nicholson still managed to hit a major milestone eclipsing the 1,000 points mark for his career to become the 42 member of the LSSU 1,000-point club.

Chris Dorsey led the offensive attack for Grand Valley finishing with 21 point on the night. Myles Miller posted 14.

The Lakers are back inside Bud Cooper on Saturday (3 p.m.) as they host Purdue Northwest in their final regular season contest of the season.
