LSSU Men Struggle Offensively, Fall to Ashland on the Road

ASHLAND, Ohio. — A cold shooting night plagued the Lake Superior Start men's basketball team Thursday evening as it fell to Ashland, 69-62, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt inside the Eagles' Kates Gymnasium.

With the loss, LSSU falls to 17-6 overall on the season with a 11-4 mark in conference play. AU improves to 16-7, 9-6.

The Lakers finished the game shooting 36.1 percent from the field and a season-low 15.8 percent from behind the arc. The Eagles shot 58.1 and 33.3 percent.

Lake Superior was outrebounded, 34-29, in the contest but turned the ball over just 14 times compared to the 24 committed by Ashland.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams led the Lakers offensively with 18 points to go along with a team-high five assists. Michael Nicholson finished with nine points and led the team on the glass with 11 rebounds. 

Wendell Davis and Ben Haraway posted 18 points respectively to lead the Eagles offense. Marsalis Hamilton finished with 17.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday as they head to Tiffin for a GLIAC tilt at 3 p.m.
