Laker Men Handle Northwood, Remain Unbeaten at Home

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.Akaemji Williams posted a team-high 22 points Saturday afternoon as the Lake Superior State men's basketball team took care of Northwood, 82-61, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference clash inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Lakers move to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the conference with the win and keep their unblemished home record intact (9-0). The Timberwolves slip to to 9-13, 5-9.

Williams, a senior, finished the game 8-of-16 from the floor, 2-of-6 from three-point range, and led the team with five assists. Forward Michael Nicholson fell one rebound shy of a double-double for the second-consecutive game totaling 13 points and nine boards on the afternoon.

Malek Adams and Rog Stein posted double figures off the bench finishing with 10 points respectively.

Zach Allread, Nate Georgeton, Nick Spitzley and Alec Marty each posted eight points in the game to lead the offensive attack for the Wolves. Kelvin Calhoun Demitri Martin and Charlie Ryan finished with six.

LSSU finished the game shooting 49.2 (30-of-61) percent from the field and 40.0 (8-of-20) percent from behind the arc. NU shot 51.1 percent and 56.3 percent.

Lake Superior outrebounded Northwood, 33-25, while forcing 13 turnovers and committing just eight on the afternoon. Lake State held a, 14-6, advantage in points from the stripe.

Lake State returns to action next Thursday (Feb.8) as they travel to Ashland for a GLIAC rivalry game with the Eagles (15-7, 8-6) at 7:30 p.m.
