SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— The Lake Superior State men's basketball team downed its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Saginaw Valley, 87-54, Thursday evening to remain unbeaten (8-0) inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.   

The Lakers move to 16-5 overall and 10-3 in the conference with the win. The Cardinals fall to 8-13, 5-8.

LSSU finished the game shooting 56.7 (34-of-60) percent from the field and 40.0 (12-of-13) percent from behind the arc. SVSU shot 36.5 percent and 27.8 percent.

Lake Superior outrebounded Saginaw Valley, 38-27, while forcing 16 turnovers and committing just six in the contest.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams took charge of the Lake State offense with a team-high 18 points on a 7-of-12 shooting performance while dishing out 11 assists for is fifth double-double of the season.

Michael Nicholson fell one rebound shy of his fifth double-double of the season finishing woth 12 points and nine boards on the night. Blake Marquardt tallied 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from long distance. Carson Manger led the Laker reserves with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Mike Well Jr. led the Cardinals offense with 14 points. D.J. Hoskins finished with 12.
