Men’s Basketball Takes Down Michigan Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— The Lake Superior State men's basketball team took down rival Michigan Tech, 84-73, Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tilt inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Lakers run their record to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC and remain unbeaten at home (7-0). The Huskies drop to 8-8, 4-5.

LSSU finished the game shooting 60.4 percent from the field with a 37.5 percent clip from three-point range. MTU shot 51.9 and 38.5 percent.

Lake State won the turnover battle committing just eight compared to 13 by Michigan Tech. 

Senior guard Akaemji Williams paced the Lakers offense with a season-high 34 points. Williams also finished with nine steals breaking his own LSSU single game record (8).

Josh Goldschmidt posted a season-high 18 points and was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Williams also lead the team with six rebounds.

Kyle Monroe led the Huskies offensively with 20 points. Bryan Heath posted 12.

Lake State is back in action next Thursday (Jan.18) as they take on Grand Valley on the road at 8 p.m.
