Lakers Upset by Wayne State

DETROIT— The No.24-ranked Lake Superior State men's basketball team suffered its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference defeat of the season Saturday afternoon as it was upset, 63-60, by Wayne State on the road.

With the loss, the Lakers slip to 12-3 overall on the season with a 6-1 mark in conference action. The Warriors improve to 7-5, 5-2.

After taking a 33-27 lead into the half, Lake State was outscored, 36-27, to fall short in the final 20 minutes of action.

LSSU finished the game shooting 51 percent from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc. WSU shot 46.2 and 20 percent.

The Lakers held a, 36-22, rebounding advantage over the Warriors in the loss but surrendered a season-high 19 turnovers compared to the 10 committed Wayne State.

Senior forward Michael Nicholson paced Lake State with a team-high 23 points and 10 rebounds recording his third double-double of the season.

Akaemji Williams finished with 16 points and dished out 10 assists for his fourth double-double of the year.

Ronald Booth led the Wayne State offense with 17 points. Chuck Key posted 16 points. 

The Lakers will look to rebound as they return to action next Thursday (Jan.11) as they play host to Northern Michigan at 7:30 p.m. inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
