No.24 Lakers Take Down Northwood

MIDLAND, Mich.Akaemji Williams posted a team-high 27 points Saturday as the No.24-ranked Lake Superior State men's basketball team defeated Northwood, 92-76, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference action.

With the win, the Lakers run their record to 9-1 overall with a perfect 4-0 start to the GLIAC season. The Timberwolves fall to 2-6, 0-4.

LSSU shot 58.3 percent (35-of-60) from the field and 50 percent (9-of-18) from long distance in the win. NU shot 48.3 and 42.1 percent.

Lake Superior was outrebounded, 36-25, in the contest but won the turnover battle giving up just seven compared to the 15 committed by Northwood.

Williams also led the team with seven assists on the afternoon and notched his sixth 20-plus point performance of the season.

Josh Goldschmidt and Blake Marquardt each posted 11 points. Michael Nicholson led the team with six rebounds in the win.

Northwood was led offensively by David Jelinek who finished with 14 points. Trey McBride and Nate Georgeton each posted 13 points.

The Lakers return to Bud Cooper Gymnasium Dec.16 (3 p.m.) as they host No.5 Ferris State in a GLIAC rivalry game. LSSU welcomes Algoma (Ontario) Dec.29 in non-conference play.
