No.24 Lakers Down Saginaw Valley, Move to 3-0 in GLIAC

SAGINAW, Mich.— The No.24-ranked Lake Superior State men's basketball team handled Saginaw Valley State, 89-60, Thursday evening in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference road matchup.

With the win, the Lakers run their record to 8-1 overall on the season with a 3-0 clip in GLIAC play. The Cardinals fall to 2-7, 0-3.

LSSU finished the contest shooting 53 percent from the field with 52.2 percent mark from long distance. SVSU shot 54.2 and 33.3 percent on the night. Lake Superior held a, 34-25, advantage on the glass in the win.

Senior forward Michael Nicholson led the charge for the Lakers posting a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Blake Marquardt was second on the team with a season-high 14 points and 4-of-7 on triple attempts.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams dished out a team-leading seven assists on the night to go along with 10 points and four steals. Ke'Montrece Collins finished with 11 points to match a season-high.

Malik Garner led the Cardinals with 17 points and six rebounds. D.J. Hoskins tallied 11 points in the loss.

The Lakers return to GLIAC action on Saturday (Dec.9) as they travel to Northwood (2-6, 0-3) for a match up with the Timberwolves at 3 p.m.

Lake Superior returns to Bud Cooper Gymnasium Dec.16 (1 p.m.) when No.5 Ferris State (11-0, 3-0) comes to town for a conference showdown at 3 p.m.
