Men's Basketball Takes Down No.20 Findlay, 78-73

CEDARVILLE, Ohio.Akaemji Williams posted a season-high 27 points on Friday to propel the Lake Superior State men's basketball team to a 78-73 win over non-conference and No.20- ranked Findlay in the opening game of the Don Callan Classic at Cedarville University.

With the win, the Lakers run their record to 3-0 to open the 2017-18 campaign. The Oilers slip to 3-1 on the season

Williams, a senior guard, put on a shooting clinic finishing 10-of-16 from the field and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Williams also led the team with five assists on the night.

Senior forward Michael Nicholson notched his first double-double of the season finishing with 21 points and 15 boards.

Sophomore guard Malek Adams provided the offensive punch off the bench once again finishing with 12 points in 27 minutes on the floor. Adams was 3-of-3 from the field and 6-of-6 at the free-throw line.

As a team the Lake State shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the field and 20 percent (3-of-15) from three-point distance. Findlay finished at 43.1 percent, 33.3 percent from three. The Oilers held a slim, 38-35, rebounding advantage in the contest.

Findlay was led offensively by Elijah Kahlig who finished with 19 points. Taren Sullivan had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lakers will wrap up their weekend road trip tomorrow as the take on host Cedarville at 5:15 p.m. Live coverage of tomorrows match up can be found here:

After this weekend's action, Lake Superior will hit the road for two non-conference games against Delta State (Nov.24) and Shorter (Nov.25). Lake State returns home Nov.30 for 7:30 p.m. matchup with Ashland.
