DETROIT—The Lake Superior State men's basketball team handled non-conference Alderson Broaddus, 79-63, Sunday to finish off the Battler Classic at Wayne State University.

After taking down No.24-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan in their season-opener on Saturday, the Lakers used that momentum to open their 2017-18 campaign, 2-0.

Lake State got things going early for the second-straight day as they jumped out to an, 18-8, lead and took a ,36-28, advantage heading into the half. A 10-1 run to open the second half set the pace as LSSU sealed the win.

The Lakers shot 58.2 percent (32-of-55) from the field in the win and were 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from behind the arc. The Battlers finished with a 37.5 field goal percentage and held a, 34-26, rebounding advantage.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams led the charge on offense once again totaling 20 points (8-of-17) with a pair of triples whiles dishing out eight assists.

Senior center Michael Nicholson tallied 14 points and three rebounds on the afternoon. Junior forward Blake Marquardt finished with 13 points, a team-high four rebounds and was 3-of-5 from three-point range.

Freshman guard Malek Adams came off the bench and provided 10 points (5-of-6) to lead all reserves.

Mike Davis led the Alderson Broaddus offensive with 18 points and three assists. Brandon Willis finished with 13.

Lake Superior will be back in action on Nov.17-18 as they head to Cedarville, Ohio for a two-game non-conference series with Findlay and Cedarville.


The Lake Superior men's basketball team returns to Bud Cooper Gymnasium on Nov.30 to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference play against Tiffin.
