Laker defense musters its best outing so far

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team put together its best defensive effort of the season and totaled a season-low four turnovers during Saturday's 74-47 rout at Tiffin.
The Lakers, who are taking a four-game win streak into a two-week holiday break, improved to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
LSSU held Tiffin (1-8 overall, 0-5 GLIAC) to 17 field goals. Forty-seven points is the fewest allowed by the Lakers so far this season. Lake Superior State took control early, building a double-figure lead, 20-4, within the first six minutes.
Ryan Kuhl totaled 17 points and seven rebounds in 28 minutes of action to lead the Lakers. Scott Perkins finished with 13 points and six assists, and Micah Hudson had 10 points and two steals. Perkins was 4-for-5 from three-point range.
Tim VanOudheusden and Mark Morse scored nine points each. VanOudheusden entered the game with 999 career points and reached the 1,000-point milestone.
LSSU shot 47.4 percent from the field, including 9-of-23 from behind the arc. The Lakers were 11-of-23 at the free-throw line and out-rebounded Tiffin, 42-37.
Alex Strok scored 19 points to lead Tiffin, which shot 30.9 percent from the field and 10-of-15 at the free-throw line. The Dragons made 3-of-19 three-point attempts.
The Lakers, who played six of their last seven games on the road, play host to Saginaw Valley State in their GLIAC home opener on Jan. 3.
