Cross country teams compete in NCAA Midwest Regional at USI

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Lake Superior State men's cross country team placed 26th among 32 teams, and the Laker women's team was 29th among 35 teams at the 2016 NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championships held Saturday at the University of Southern Indiana.

Ryan Rogers placed 116th in 33:24.53 to lead LSSU in the men's 10K race. Thomas VanSlembrouck was 133rd in 33:42.81, and Jacob Baker rounded out the Lakers' top three by placing 139th in 33:50.54. LSSU's top seven included Jack Miles (146th in 34:01.90), Edward Carlson (183rd in 35:16.75), Parker Wyngaard (35:24.20) and Zach Workman (191st in 36:01.24).

Lydia Heimonen was 68th for Lake Superior State in the women's 6K meet. She turned in a time of 22:25.43. Mackenzie Kelley was 169th in 24:33.62, and Kaitlyn Cavallo was 175th in 24:49.62. The top seven for the Laker women included Trudie Mulville (196th in 25:51.75), Hannah Passino (198th in 26:01.75), Rebecca Lathrop (201st in 26:14.36) and Mckenzie Richardson (27:40.18).

Grand Valley State swept both team titles.
