Laker men place second and women third at U.P. Collegiate

MARQUETTE - The Lake Superior State men's cross country team placed second, and the women's team finished third at the Upper Peninsula Collegiate held Friday at Chocolay Downs Golf Course.
The Lakers totaled 43 points, while Michigan Tech won the men's meet with 18 points. Finlandia and Gogebic Community College did not post team scores. Northern Michigan won the women's meet with 23 points, followed by MTU with 32 and LSSU with 87.
Sean Vardy was sixth in 25:25.9 to lead the LSSU men. Lucas Pease finished eighth in 25:32.7, while the pack including Jeff Kuhl (26:05.7), Mackenzie Oglesby (26:10.6), Stephen Bates (26:12.6) and Robert Swain (26:15) was 14th through 17th, respectively.
Kayla Nowak placed 32nd in 21:08.3 to garner the top finish for the LSSU women's team. Aubree Danielson was 34th in 21:13.3. Meghan Thomas was 39th in 21:25.4, followed by Lindsey Mansfield, who was 45th in 22:06.8.
