2009 GLIAC Cross Country Championships

LINWOOD - Lucas Pease placed 42nd and Kayla Nowak was 69th to lead the Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams at the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships held Saturday at Maple Leaf Golf Course.
Pease, who was 51st overall but 42nd in the team standings, finished the 8K course in 26:31.8. Jeff Kuhl was 49th in 26:53.4, and Sean Vardy placed 59th in 27:13.7. The top five for the LSSU men's team also included Stephen Bates, who was 67th in 27:27.5, and Jake Hoover, who was 71st in 27:51.8.
The LSSU men's team finished 11th with 288 points. Grand Valley State landed all five runners in the top 10 and won the men's title with 21 points.
Nowak clocked a time of 25:43.2 for the Laker women. Meghan Thomas was 71st in 25:51.4, followed by Aubree Danielson, who was 74th in 26:27.3. Alyse Smith finished 76th in 26:55.2, and Sarah Christilaw rounded out the Lakers' top five by placing 77th in 27:18.4. The Lakers were 12th with 367 points. Five Grand Valley State runners finished in the top six as GVSU swept the team events.
