Track & Field Set to Compete at the 2020 Conference Crossover Meet

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the 2020 Conference Crossover on Friday, Jan. 24 hosted by Hillsdale College at the Biermann Athletic Center in Hillsdale, Mich.

The field events will start at 4:00 p.m. while the running events are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Field Events

The events will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the men's high jump, women's high jump and the women's pole vault. Freshman Riley Traver will compete in the men's high jump while the Lakers will have two entries in the women's high jump competition, Riley Collins and Elizabeth Setsuda. In the women's pole vault event, freshmen Arianna Lazzaro and Sarah Votruba are set to partake. The men's pole vault, which is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start, will have Roger Willford compete for the Lakers. 

The long jump events will start at 5:30, with Ashley Mullings and Breanyl Baker competing on the women's side and Riley Nichols and Roger Willford taking part in the men's event. Sarah Votruba will be the lone Laker to compete in the triple jump, which is slated to start at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The Lakers will have a strong showing of athletes competing in the throwing events, weight throw and shot put. The women's weight throw will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the shot put following at 7:00 p.m. and while the men will open with the shot put, and conclude with the weight throw. Moriah Reed, Sara Ostwald and Brittney Ryan will compete in the women's throwing events while Kye Heimonen, Ryan Reiniche and Timothy Howes will participate in the men's throwing competition. 

Running Events

The running events will start at 7:00 p.m. with the women running first in all events. The 60 meter hurdles will open the schedule of races with Elizabeth Setsuda competing in the women's semifinal and Andrew Giddens and Roger Willford competing in the men's semifinal. The men's 60 meter hurdles final is set for 7:30 p.m. and the women's final will follow the men.

In the men's 60 meter dash, Riley Nichols, Dwayne Thompson, and Riley Traver  will compete for the Lakers. The women's 60 meter dash will include Breanyl Baker, Shelby Curtiss, Jessica Nicholas and Nadya Woodson

The mile race will have a number of Laker athletes competing. The women's race will feature Alexis Passino, Caitlyn Schumann, Rebecca Lathrop and Emily Merten. In the men's event, David Mitter and Eric Somsky will participate. 

In the 200 meter distance, the Lakers will be represented on the women's side with Ellie Bell, Alyssa Mulford, and Nadya Woodson competing. Elizabeth Setsuda will be the Lakers sole runner in the 400 meter distance at the 2020 Conference Crossover. In the 800 meter race, the Lakers will have a presence in both races with Tom Hanke running in the men's distance and Rebecca Lathrop, Emily Merten, Alexis Passino and Caitlyn Schumann competing in the women's event. 

In the 3000 meter event, the longest event of the meet, the Lakers will look to a strong showing from David Mitter and Kendal Delpiere on the men's side and Leah Bell and Melody Perrin on the women's side. 

The last event of the meet will be the 4 x 400 meter relay. The Lakers will have entries on both the men's and women's side competing in the race.

The Lakers will have a break in action before returning to competition on Friday, Feb 7 at the 2020 Hillsdale "Wide-Track" Classic hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.
