Lakers Set for 2019 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the 2019 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. 

The meet commences on Wednesday with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. 

On Thursday, the men's decathlon resumes at 9 a.m. and the women's heptathlon restarts at 9:30 a.m. The field events are scheduled to begin with the men's hammer throw, men's long jump and women's pole vault at 2:30 p.m. The running events are scheduled to start with the women's 4x100-meter relay preliminary heats at 2:30 p.m., followed by the men at 2:45 p.m. The field events conclude on Thursday with the men's high jump and javelin at 5 p.m., while the running events finish with the men's 10,000-meter run final at 8 p.m.

On Friday, the field events start back up with the men's shot put, women's discus, men's triple jump and women's high jump at 11 a.m. The running events resume with the women's 4x100-meter relay final and the men's 4x100-meter final at 12:10 p.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively. The meet concludes with the women's 4x400-meter relay final at 3:40 p.m. and the men's 4x400-meter relay final at 3:40 p.m.   

Entering the meet, sophomore David Mitter has the 12th-fastest time in the GLIAC for the 5,000-meter run this outdoor season. He ran a personal-best time of 14:56.79 at the Miami Blizzard Buster on March 23. Freshman Andrew Giddens enters the meet with the 10th-fastest 110-meter hurdles result in the GLIAC — 15.38 seconds at the GVSU Al Owns Classic on April 19-20. Junior Roger Willford has the ninth-longest javelin throw in the GLIAC this season. He recorded a personal-best distance of 41.05 meters at the Spartan Invitational on April 5-6.  

On the women's side of competition, sophomore Riley Collins has the sixth-best high jump in the GLIAC this season. She recorded a personal-best jump of 1.65 meters at the Miami Blizzard Buster. In the long jump, junior Elizabeth Setsuda has the ninth-best jump this season — 5.29 meters (personal best) at the GVSU Al Owens Classic.
