Track and Field Competes at Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Lake Superior State track and field teams competed at the Al Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday at Grand Valley State University.

On the women's side of the meet, senior Kelsey Mader was the highest-finishing Laker — placing sixth out of 30 competitors in the javelin throw. Mader's distance of 31.79 meters is a personal best and the ninth-longest javelin throw in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season. 

Junior Elizabeth Setsuda ran a personal-best time of 12.42 seconds to finish 11th out of 53 in the 100-meter dash. It was the fastest 100-meter dash by a Laker this season. Setsuda also set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters, which was good for a ninth-place finish out of 36 competitors, who completed a jump. 

Senior Lydia Heimonen finished 19th out of 63 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.12.

Junior Rebecca Lathrop set a personal best in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:01.21 to finish 24th out of 82 competitors.

Junior Sara Ostwald garnered a season-best distance of 33.80 meters in the discus throw.

Sophomore Moriah Reed recorded a personal-best distance of 38.48 meters in the hammer throw.

On the men's side of the meet, sophomore David Mitter continued his strong season — finishing fourth overall out of 50 competitors in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:05.64.

In the 800-meter run, sophomore Luke Passino finished 7th out of 49 finishers with a time of 1:58.45.

Freshman Dwayne Thompson set a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time 11.10 seconds. He finished tied for 10th out of 32.

Senior Parker Wyngaard ran a personal-best time of 52.10 in the 400-meter dash. 

Freshman Andrew Giddens recorded a personal-best time of 15.38 to place eighth in the 110-meter hurdles.

Junior Roger Willford tallied a season-best high jump of 1.85 meters to finish sixth. He also finished eighth out of 24 in the javelin throw with a season-best throw of 40.91 meters.

Junior Caleb McCastle placed 10th in the javelin throw with a personal best of 38.60 meters.

The Lakers are back in action at the 53rd Annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays on April 25-27 in Hillsdale, Michigan.
