Track and Field to Compete at Al Owens Classic

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the Al Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday in Allendale, Michigan.

The Al Owens Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State, gets underway with the field events on Friday. The hammer throw and pole vault are the first events to be contested — beginning at noon.

On Saturday, the classic resumes with the discus at 10:30 a.m. The running events begin with the 5,000-meter run at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The meet concludes with the 1,600-meter relay at 5 p.m.

The Lakers last competed at the Auto-Owners Spartan Invitational on April 5-6 in East Lansing, Michigan. On the men's side of the meet, sophomore David Mitter finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:05 — the second-fastest time of his collegiate career. On the women's side, sophomore Riley Collins recorded a personal-best time of 1:00.57 in the 400-meter dash.
