SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State women's track and field student-athlete Alexis Passino has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Monday.

Passino, a sophomore from Indian River, Michigan who is majoring in Environmental Science, ran a personal-best time of 5:12.09 to win the unseeded heat of the 1,500-meter run at the Auto-Owners Spartan Invitational on Saturday. Passino defeated 27 other runners in the heat and she improved upon her previous personal best of 5:32.28, which was set at last year's Spartan Invitational (April 6-7, 2018), by over 20 seconds.

It is the first time that Passino has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week.

The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams continue their outdoor seasons at the Al Owens Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State, on April 19-20 in Allendale, Michigan.
