Track and Field Set to Begin Outdoor Season at Miami Blizzard Buster

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams begin their 2019 outdoor seasons at the Miami Blizzard Buster on Saturday at the George L. Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.

The meet, which is being hosted by Miami University, commences at 9 a.m. EDT on Saturday morning with the women's hammer throw and the men's javelin throw. The track events are slated to start with the women's 5,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m. The meet will run throughout the day before wrapping up with the women's and men's 4x400-meter relays at 4:15 p.m. and 4:25 p.m., respectively.

The Lakers were last in action at the 2019 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State University, at the SVSU Fieldhouse in University Center, Michigan on Feb. 23-24. The men's team finished seventh with 21 points — the most points by the men's team at the GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships since the 2014 season when they garnered 45.50 points. The women's team finished 10th at the indoor championships as they scored a point for the first time since 2014.

At the GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Roger Willford, a junior, finished in third place in the heptathlon with a personal-best 4,871 points. Wilford also placed fifth in the pole vault with a cleared height of 4.48 meters. The women's distance medley relay team of senior Lydia Heimonen, sophomore (R-Fr. Indoors) Riley Collins, freshman Elizabeth Setsuda and junior Rebecca Lathrop finished in eighth place with a time of 12:48.48 to score for the Lakers.
