UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Lake Superior State track and field teams competed in the SVSU Tune-Up on Friday night as the Lakers prepare for the 2019 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Competing at the Saginaw Valley State University Fieldhouse, the Lakers won or finished with a share of first place, in five events.
Some of the top performers for the Lakers were sophomore Riley Collins, the women's 4x400-meter relay team, senior Travis Sutton and sophomore David Mitter.
Collins finished in a three-way tie for first place in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters. The height is the best of Collins' collegiate career.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of senior Lydia Heimonen, Collins, junior Rebecca Lathrop and junior Elizabeth Setsuda, finished in first place with a season-best time of 4:14.48.
Sutton won the 600-meter run — crossing the line in 1:25.90, which is his second-fastest time this season.
In the mile run, Mitter ran a personal best time of 4:17.87 to win the event.
The Lakers will be back in action at the 2019 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State, at the SVSU Fieldhouse in University Center, Michigan on Saturday and Sunday.
