Track and Field to Compete at GVSU Open and Jet's Pizza Invitational

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams continue their indoor seasons this weekend at the GVSU Open at Grand Valley State University and the Jet's Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State University. 

The GVSU Open is on Friday at Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Michigan and the Jet's Pizza Invitational is Friday and Saturday at Saginaw Valley State University Fieldhouse in University Center, Michigan.

For the Jet's Pizza Invitational, the field events begin with the weight throw at 4 p.m., followed by the running events at 5 p.m. with the 60-meter hurdles leading the schedule. The field events for the GVSU Open begin with the high jump at 2:45 p.m. and the running events start at 3 p.m. with the 60-meter hurdles leading the way. 

The Lakers last competed at the SVSU Doug Hansen Open on Dec. 18 at the SVSU Fieldhouse. Freshman Andrew Giddens recorded one of the top performance on the men's side by making it to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles where he finished with a time of 8.86 to place 8th overall. On the women's side, sophomore Riley Collins jumped 1.63 meters to finish in a three-way tie for first.

The Lakers return to competition at the Big Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University on Friday, Feb. 8 in Allendale, Michigan.
