LSSU Track and Field Kicks Off Indoor Season at SVSU Holiday Open

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams begin their indoor seasons this weekend at the Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Open in Saginaw, Michigan.

The Holiday Open kicks off with field events at 4 p.m. and running events beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the Saginaw Valley State University Fieldhouse.

On Friday, the women's pentathlon begins at 12 p.m. The men's heptathlon is set to start at 12:15 p.m. on Friday and continues at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

On the men's side, freshman Dwayne Thompson, a native of St. Catherine, Jamaica who is majoring in biology (pre-med), will make his Laker track and field debut in the 60-meter dash this weekend. 

For the women, sophomore Ashley Mullings is set to compete in the long jump. Mullings, a biochemistry major from Kingston, Jamaica, jumped a career-best 5.45 meters to finish eighth in the long jump and score for the Lakers at the 2018 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Ashland, Ohio. Sophomore Riley Collins, a biology major from Manchester, Mich., is scheduled to compete in the high jump and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team.
