Lakers break four school records at Northwood Open

MIDLAND - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams broke four school records and claimed three first-place finishes at the Northwood Open held Saturday.
Patrick Wright broke Derek Sandahl's 2001 school record of 44-8 in the men's triple jump. Wright's jump of 44-10 ¼ was good for third place. He also finished second in the long jump (21-0 ¾).
Katie Scott set her fifth outdoor track and field school record by clocking a 4:45.46 and placing fourth in the women's 1,500-meter run. Her impressive resume also includes marks in the 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs, and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Kimberlee Booms placed fifth in the women's hammer throw with a school-record performance of 138-6. She beat the former LSSU mark of 134-5 set by current throws coach, Megan Cowan.
Paul Davis improved his school record in the men's 200-meter dash by placing third with a time of :22.04. His previous mark was :22.11.
Ben Charbonneau easily won the men's javelin throw with a 190-07. Katie Winiarski won the women's high jump (5-3). LSSU's other first-place finisher was Ben Tarbutton in the men's 5,000-meter run (15:23.64).
Taylor Patton finished second in the women's triple jump (33-11 ¼), while Laura Lindsey was second in the shot put (39-7). Stacy Leyder placed third in the 3,000-meter run (12:05.32), and Amanda Pieczynski was fourth in the 200-meter dash (:26.49).
