Scott claims third indoor school record of the season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Katie Scott claimed her third school record of the 2008-09 indoor track and field season by placing fifth against a Division I field at the Indiana Relays held Friday and Saturday at Indiana University.
Scott broke clocked a 10:09.78 to shattered her former school record of 10:26.3 set in January, 2007, at the University of Michigan. She finished behind competitors from Indiana, Missouri State and Ohio State, and beat runners from Southeast Missouri, Notre Dame, Indiana State, Southern Indiana, DePaul, Belmont and Western Kentucky.
"Katie appeared to be the only DII run in the strong
invitational field," LSSU track and field coach Steve Eles
said. "I was very pleased with how Katie ran. Fifth place
in an invitational
3,000-meter is a great result. This is already her third school
record this indoor season. We are looking forward to trying to
better these marks in the upcoming weeks."
Scott also broke the women's indoor mile and 5,000-meter run records this season.
Senior Evan Williams placed 23rd among 33 competitors in the men's 800-meter run. He finished in 2:00.01. Senior Adam Smith clocked his best time of :49.21 in the men's 400-meter dash, but was disqualified due to a lane violation.
The Lakers' next competition is The Big Meet on Feb. 13-14 at Grand Valley State.
