Charbonneau wins javelin at Hillsdale Gina Relays


HILLSDALE - Ben Charbonneau won the men's javelin throw, and Katie Scott improved upon her school record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase as four Lake Superior State athletes competed at this weekend's Hillsdale Gina Relays.

Charbonneau came up short of his school-record distance, but easily won the event with a throw of 192-2 (58.58 meters). He was the only Division II athlete among the top seven finishers.

Scott placed eighth in the steeplechase with a time of 11:02.61 against a fast field. The top five finishers were all NCAA automatic qualifiers, and the top 11 met the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time.

Taylor Patton finished 17th in the women's triple jump with a distance of 34-3 (10.44m). Patrick Wright fouled out of the men's triple jump.
