Laker Hockey: Bill Crawford
The “Voice of the Lakers”, Bill Crawford has been a staple of the Laker Hockey Program throughout its storied history.

Calling his first Laker Hockey game back in 1973, Crawford has compiled more than 37 years as Lake State’s play-by-play personality with two brief sabbaticals from the mic.

Crawford was on-air for three of the Lakers five national championships calling the 1988, 1992 and 1994 title games.

A Sault Ste. Marie native, Crawford was employed by LSSU for 21 years serving as the Director of Public Relations (1988-1996), Director of Athletics (1996-2006) and the Vice President of University Relations and Marketing from 2006 until his retirement in 2009.

Crawford was recognized with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Tom Donahue Service Award in 2007 which is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the GLIAC and intercollegiate athletics.

While serving as the AD, Crawford was instrumental in the expanding and renovation project of Taffy Abel Arena also helped establish the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the NCAA Oversight Committee at LSSU.

Crawford was inducted into the LSSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.

Laker Basketball: David Jahn
A highly respected individual throughout the Lake State and Sault Ste. Marie community, David Jahn has been the voice of Laker Basketball over the six years covering both the men’s and women’s programs.

Jahn has severed as the president and chief executive officer at War Memorial Hospital since 2005 fostering tremendous growth and providing financial stability. Jahn has also been leading catalyst in developing partnership between WMH and the LSSU health field programs, specifically the Nursing program.

A Manistique, Mich., native, Jahn earned his Master of Business Administration from LSSU in 1990 and was awarded the LSSU Alumni Association Outstanding Alumnus Award for his impact on campus and in the community.

Matt Pocket: LSSU Athletics Producer
A young and highly respected talent in the radio broadcast industry, Matt Pocket serves as the Sports Director at LSSU’s Broadcasting partner, Sovereign Communications, helping organize the production and coverage of all LSSU Athletics Events while serving as the lead on-air fill-in for Laker Hockey and Basketball.

In addition to game broadcasts, Pocket produces the weekly “Laker Hockey” show on Tuesday evenings hosted by Bill Crawford with head coach Damon Whitten.

Pocket also hosts his own weekly radio show on ESPN 1400, “Pocket’s Sports Corner”, on Wednesday afternoons which features an hour of local sports talk including a weekly guest segment on Laker Athletics.
