LSSU fall sports athletes earn GLIAC All-Academic recognition
SAULT STE. MARIE - Twenty Lake Superior State University fall sports athletes earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic honors.
The top volleyball players included junior middle hitter Samantha Gibbs (Midland, Mich.) with a 3.865 grade point average in accounting, and senior setter Ashley Purvis (Lapeer, Mich.), with a 3.781 GPA in business administration/management. Other volleyball players receiving recognition were seniors Trisha Dutton (Mount Pleasant, Mich.), Ali Jones (Fruitport, Mich.) and Brishia Stroven (St. Louis, Mich.), and juniors Sara Hess (Owosso, Mich.) and Holly Orban (Suttons Bay, Mich.).
Top academic honors for the men's cross country team went to top runner Luke Allen (Manistee, Mich.), a senior with a 3.777 GPA in political science. Men's cross country honorees also included senior Adam Smith (Mount Pleasant, Mich.), junior Jake Hoover (Capac, Mich.) and sophomore Lucas Pease (Bellevue, Mich.).
Women's cross country honorees included junior Katie Scott (Mitchell, Ont.), with a 3.780 GPA in exercise science. She received her seventh all-academic award and is expected to earn her fifth USTFCCCA Academic All-America award. Other top female student-athletes included junior Emily Bowen (Reed City, Mich.), with a 3.871 GPA in nursing, and sophomores Sarah Christilaw (Midland, Mich.) with a 3.812 GPA in nursing, and Chelsea Kreft (Roger's City, Mich.) with a 3.736 GPA in nursing. Juniors Alyse Smith (Clayton, Mich.) and Courtney Smith (Mio, Mich.), and sophomore Heather Millard (Plainwell, Mich.) also received all-academic honors.
Women's tennis all-academic honorees were junior Weronika Lomacka (Warsaw, Poland) and sophomore Ingrid Pflieger (Grossaitingen, Germany). Pflieger played No. 1 singles while Lomacka played No. 2. Together, they made up LSSU's No. 1 doubles team.
